Kate Rubins (she/her) is a NASA astronaut (ret.) and molecular biologist who holds the very nerdy distinction of being the first person to sequence DNA in space. She’s flown two long missions on the International Space Station, spent over 300 days in orbit, and taken a few casual strolls outside the spacecraft (four spacewalks, to be exact). These days her work connects space exploration and global health, with a focus on genomics, synthetic biology, and building the future of biomedicine.
